In England there is a strategy to implement ‘World Class Skills into the workplace with measurable effect by 2020. How is this going to be done?
1. Through improving Teacher/Trainer training
The UK Lifelong Learning Sector Skills Council has as a mission to:
Encourage teachers, trainers, librarians and other staff in post-compulsory education to gain new skills and qualifications so that they offer a better service to young people, adult learners, employers and the wider community
Promote lifelong learning as a career so that employers in the sector have less difficulty recruiting and retaining staff
Develop sector-wide occupational standards and qualification frameworks.
That’s the plan, this is the direction it is going
Where is your Map or GPS or do you just hope you have a good sense of direction. I hope its not dark out there?
2. Business Talent
Business Talent will encourage Further Education (FE) training and skills providers to recruit talented leaders from outside the FE sector to senior management positions within FE. Business Talent has been developed in consultation with the FE sector, and will provide practical support to help FE providers to attract and retain successful private and public sector senior managers.
What does this mean – well it is now recognized that there is a major gulf between what Colleges of Further Education provide and what business actually needs.
You may be the person to fill the gap?
3. Lifelong Learning UK
Lifelong Learning UK encourages initiatives in the IT and Communications sector, led by the Institute of IT Training with the British Computer Society and eSkills, that ensure that the IT and Communications sector can say that trainers, teachers, tutors and training managers have the qualifications and occupational standards that would be recognised as professional for their role in any other sector.
What does this mean- I am not Mystic Meg for those of you that remember her, but there is a clue in the wording used above. If you are a Trainer take note, National Framework Qualifications are here to stay and it may well be that you can’t teach or train without them sometime into the near future.
